The 108th annual conference of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) was inaugurated here at Osmania University on Sunday (December 21, 2025).
Shamika Ravi, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, addressing the inaugural ceremony, emphasised the role of data-driven governance and structural reforms in ensuring India’s inclusive growth. She spoke on poverty metrics and the growing importance of ‘narrative economics’ in shaping the national policy.
Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission, N. K. Singh, while sharing insights on navigating global trade challenges, also underscored that the pillars of federalism and economic resilience are fundamental to achieving the 2047 vision.
Themed Viksit Bharat@2047: Projecting headway to a developed nation, the inaugural ceremony of the three-day conference saw the attendance of over 300 participants from 27 States.
In the conference, Member Secretary, ICSSR, Dhananjay Singh explained the various schemes available under ICSSR and encouraged scholars to find research-led, practical solutions to societal problems.
While president IEA Dhulasi Birundha Varadarajan stressed the vital integration of the Indian knowledge system into modern social science research, Secretary D.K. Madaan presented the IEA’s long journey in shaping the nation’s economic values.
Institute of Public Enterprise director, S. Sreenivasa Murthy, elaborated on the strategic intersection of public enterprises and national economic goals.
