YouTube channel booked for uploading misleading PU exam paper

The North Division Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against a YouTube channel for allegedly uploading a question paper resembling the official board examination paper during the ongoing preparatory examinations for Pre-University (PU) students.

The FIR was registered on January 9 following a complaint lodged by Raju N., Joint Director of the Department of Pre-University Education, Bengaluru.

According to the complaint, the Hindi language preparatory examination for PU students was scheduled to be held on January 9. However, on January 8 around 4 pm, it came to the notice of the department that a YouTube channel run by an account named NiranjanShetty@NiranjanShetty9581 had prepared and uploaded a Hindi question paper closely modelled on the official format prescribed by the Department of PU Education.

The uploaded content allegedly mimicked the structure and presentation of the official board paper, which officials said could mislead students into believing it to be the actual examination paper or an authentic model paper issued by the department.

Terming the act as an attempt to create confusion among students during the examination period, the Joint Director approached the cybercrime police seeking legal action.

Based on the complaint, the North Division Cyber Crime Police registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the intent behind the act. The police are now trying to track down the accused based on the social media account.
