Former MP and national president of the Vishwa Hindi Parishad Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad felicitated Bobby Mukkamala for becoming the first Indian-origin and first non-American-born president of the American Medical Association (AMA), at a programme held in Flint, Michigan, on Sunday.

The event brought together members of the Indian-American community, prominent physicians, local leaders, and well-wishers to honour Dr. Mukkamala’s groundbreaking achievement.

Mr. Lakshmi Prasad called Dr. Mukkamala’s elevation a historic moment not only for the Indian diaspora but also for the global medical fraternity. “His dedication, humility, and service in Flint reflect the values that India cherishes,” he said.

Dr. Mukkamala, an ENT specialist and long-time resident of Flint, has been associated with the AMA since 2009, and has held multiple leadership roles. His election as the 180th president of the AMA marks a major milestone for diversity and inclusion in American healthcare leadership.
