Indian and Chinese officials on Tuesday (March 25, 2025) held another round of talks of the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination of the India-China Border Affairs in Beijing. The countries are preparing for talks between Special Representatives later this year.
“They also exchanged views on early resumption of cross-border cooperation and exchanges, including on trans-border rivers and Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra,” said the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
The Ministry said India and China exchanged views on early resumption of cross-border cooperation and exchanges in diplomatic talks.
“India and China explored various measures and proposals to give effect to decisions taken during the last talks,” the Ministry said adding that peace and tranquillity on border are critical for smooth development of overall bilateral ties.
China on March 17, 2025 welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that India and China have achieved “normalcy” at the border after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and that the two sides were restoring ties to pre-2020, while ensuring that “differences don’t become disputes”.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was in China in January 2025, during which India and China made several announcements on the future of their bilateral relations. He met Wang Yi, China’s Foreign Minister, Director of the Office of Central Commission of Foreign Affairs and also a politburo member of the party, and also Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party.
On March 7, 2025, Mr. Wang said that India-China relations have made “positive strides” and achieved a series of encouraging outcomes at all levels after last year’s breakthrough ending the over four-year-long military standoff in eastern Ladakh.
