Woman uses dog to attack mother-in-law, brings it to police station to threaten cops

The Ettumanur police station on Saturday witnessed some dramatic scenes when a woman accused of setting her dog on her mother-in-law arrived at the station with the animal in a bid to intimidate the police personnel on duty there.

The woman, identified as Rajani, a resident of Peroor, turned up at the station with her dog in the morning, tied it on the premises and issued threats to the officers on duty. She had been summoned in connection with a complaint over attacking her 72-year-old mother-in-law, Mariyamma John, using the same dog the previous day.

According to the police, Rajani had released the dog to attack Mariyamma, causing bite injuries on the elderly woman. The CCTV footage that captured the assault, which took place on Friday, later went viral online. That evening, Rajani created a commotion at the Ettumanur station, demanding that a case be filed against her injured mother-in-law. As it was late in the day, the police refrained from arresting Rajani then.

Family members allege that Rajani assaulted Mariyamma again that night. The following morning, she returned to the station with the dog, tying it up at the station’s porch, where it allegedly posed a threat to both the officers and the public.

Despite several attempts by the police to calm her down, Rajani refused to cooperate. The Station House Officer subsequently ordered that a case be registered under the Kerala Police Act for bringing a potentially dangerous animal into a police station and issuing threats. Rajani has now been arrested under two separate charges and produced before a magistrate.
