Welfare calendar will soon be released, says Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said a target had been set to achieve zero poverty in the State by the end of 2029.

Addressing the gathering after disbursing social pensions and interacting with the MGNREGS workers as part of the ‘Pedala Sevalo‘ (in service of the poor) programme at Cheyyeru village of Katrenikona mandal in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Mr. Naidu said eradication of poverty would eliminate economic inequalities.

Population management

“South India is witnessing a population decline compared to the North. Andhra Pradesh has prepared a plan for population management for overall progress. We expect women to adopt a policy of preferring not less than two children, as the country will reap benefit from the working age group by 2027,” said Mr. Naidu.

Stating that no State was offering a maximum of ₹15,000 as pension in any category, the Chief Minister said a welfare calendar would soon be released. It would have the schedule of implementation of the promises and welfare schemes.

Referring to the growth of the Godavari delta, Mr. Naidu appealed to the coconut farmers to go for intercrop, with cocoa and fodder to generate additional income in the groves spread over 90,000 acres.

“Each family will be given a pair of cows or buffaloes for the uplift of the poor in the district. The government will examine the possibility of supplying fodder,” he said.

Projects sanctioned

Mr. Naidu sanctioned two bridges at Gogullanka and Pallamkurru in the mandal and a BC residential school-cum-college for girls at Cheyyeru, besides giving the nod for development of a 12-acre pond into a comprehensive water scheme for drinking purposes.

The Chief Minister announced ₹2 lakh as ex gratia to the next of kin of the eight persons, including two minors, who drowned in the Godavari at Kamini Lanka of Mummudivaram mandal in the district.
