We know we can beat anyone, says J&K skipper Dogra

Jammu & Kashmir’s victory against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday would have once constituted an upset in the Ranji Trophy. But it’s no longer the case. Not when J&K beat Mumbai in Mumbai last season for the second time in its history on its way to reaching the quarterfinals.

Even before the just-concluded clash against Delhi, J&K skipper Paras Dogra spoke about how there was genuine conviction that the team could go all the way this season. A seven-wicket win in the national capital only reinforces that belief. Of the four matches that J&K has played in the ongoing campaign, it has won two and sits second in Group D with 14 points.

“We reached the quarters last year. So, the team was in good spirits. There is confidence that we can win the Ranji Trophy. This is another good match reinforcing that belief. To beat Delhi in Delhi is a good achievement. It tells us that we can beat anyone anywhere,” the 40-year-old Dogra told reporters after the win.

Having previously played for Himachal Pradesh and Pondicherry, the middle-order batter has never been part of a champion outfit. His move to J&K last season in the twilight of his professional journey seems to be a step-up.

“I’m enjoying myself as a part of this outfit. Here, it feels so good that we are doing well. It is a very positive dressing room,” Dogra said. “We are backing everyone. This is a group of 20-25 boys. We are telling them to play their game.”
