‘Vilayath Buddha’ box office collections day 13: Prithviraj Sukumaran film mints Rs 5 lakhs; Theatrical run nearing its end | Malayalam Movie News – The Times of India

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Vilayath Buddha’ is experiencing a box office slowdown, with collections dipping significantly. Despite strong performances from the cast, including Shammi Thilakan and Anu Mohan, the film’s formulaic writing is cited as a drawback. While Prithviraj delivers a raw portrayal, emotional scenes reportedly falter. The movie’s overall earnings are currently around Rs 8.58 crore worldwide.

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Vilayath Buddha’ is inching closer to the end of its theatrical journey, and the box office numbers shows that slowdown. According to the latest reports, on Day 13, the film managed to collect just Rs 5 lakhs. Reportedly, ‘Vilayath Buddha’ currently stands at Rs 5.14 crore (India Net), Rs 5.98 crore (India Gross) and Rs 2.6 crore overseas, making for Rs 8.58 crore worldwide, as per Sacnilk website reports.

Daily numbers continue to dip

While Day 10 brought in Rs 14 lakhs, the business shrunk to Rs 8 lakhs on Day 11, Rs 6 lakhs on Day 12, and now Rs 5 lakhs on Day 13. The film was expected to benefit from Prithviraj Sukumaran’s strong stardom and intense promotional buzz, yet audience footfall has reduced significantly across theatres during weekdays.

Performances shine, formulaic writing holds back the film

In the ETimes review, the critic pointed out, “And this is the thing that is problematic about the film. It is formulaic – in its portrayal of an anti-hero, who is actually also a helper of the poor local people; in the masculine energy that drives the story, but also in the climax, when it tries to appeal to today’s sensibilities. (We will leave it at this to avoid spoilers).”The review appreciated Prithviraj’s attempt at a rugged and raw role, saying, “It is good to see Prithviraj playing a raw character. The man has charm and he makes the anti-hero appealing enough to make us root for him, but he falters a bit in the emotional scenes.”Shammi Thilakan’s performance stood out, with the review noting, “Shammi is super as the Bhaskaran Master, making us laugh at him, sympathise with him and feel exasperated with his stubbornness.” The critic also highlighted, “Anu Mohan is charming. Priyamvada Krishnan, who plays Mohanan’s love interest, has presence.”DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
