Young talents offer tech solutions to Kochi City police

Students of the School of Engineering at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) have pitched innovative ideas to help the Kochi police enhance their technological expertise.

The ideas were pitched at a workshop, ‘Idea pitching for Kochi City Police’, held on the campus on Wednesday. The tech solutions offered by the students will be vetted as per the requirements of the police.

Some of the areas identified included smart night patrol, real-time tracking, video surveillance, data-driven evaluation of police operations, and detection of chemicals and illegal drugs before sending them to the forensic lab. Students have also come up with ideas for crime pattern analysis, predictive analysis of crimes and illegal activities, traffic congestion control, and secure digital record keeping for law enforcement.

Faculty members said the shortlisted ideas would be screened at the second round of discussions to be held on February 19. The police may provide funding for working out solutions in this round. They may also try to source external funding to make the ideas operational, they said.

The young talents were offered a platform to pitch their ideas as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between academic and law enforcement sectors, they said.
