What Bengaluru can look forward to in 2025

As we wrap up 2024 and step into the new year, The Hindu’s Bengaluru bureau looks at what the city can expect to look forward to in 2025.

An elected BBMP council

Four years have passed since the BBMP last had an elected council. In September 2025, it will be five years. Will civic polls be held by then?

Big ticket projects

The city administration will raise loans of up to ₹46,000 crore in 2025 for the Peripheral Ring Road and Tunnel Road projects.

Controversial plans

Despite opposition from civic society, the BBMP is expected to continue white-topping major roads, including the CBD. The BBMP is also planning to finalise land for the Skydeck project, another plan that citizens have repeatedly questioned.

Metro expansion

After multiple delays, the much-awaited Yellow Line, which covers 18 km between R.V. Road and Bommasandra, is projected to commence operations in early 2025.

Renewable energy

The State’s first waste-to-energy plant in Bidadi is likely to be inaugurated in January 2025. The EV charging station with a battery energy storage system in Devanahalli is also expected to be commissioned in the early months of this year. KERC is all set to pass its first multi-year tariff order in 2025.

State Education Policy

The State Education Policy (SEP) Commission, headed by Sukhadeo Thorat, is expected to submit its final report in February 2025. It will be implemented in Karnataka during the academic year 2025-26.

AI in policing

The Bengaluru Police’s focus in 2025 will be on integrating AI into law and order, crime detection, cybercrime prevention, and traffic regulations.
