Vehicular entry to the popular tourist destination Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district will be prohibited on weekdays from March 24 to April 25 as asphalting work will be taken up on a 7.70-km stretch. However, vehicular movement will be allowed on weekends i.e. from 6.30 p.m. on Friday evening to 8 a.m. on Monday morning, according to an order issued by the District Magistrate on March 21.
The road repair work on the hill has been taken up at a cost of ₹4.90 crore. “As the roads in Nandi Hills are narrow and contain several hairpin curves, the contractors had requested a ban on vehicular traffic to finish the asphalting work. The Assistant Executive Engineer, Chikkaballapur, Sub Division also recommended the same. Hence vehicular movement will be banned for one month on all weekdays,” P.N. Ravindra, Deputy Commissioner, Chikkaballapur said in the order.
Visitors and tourists will however be allowed to trek the hills by foot.
