Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Monday (December 30, 2024) met Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi at Raj Bhavan in Chennai and submitted a petition regarding the safeguarding of law and order in the State, among other issues.

“We met the Governor and submitted a petition for ensuring women safety and urging for appropriate measures to be taken,” TVK general secretary N. Anand said in a statement.

The statement also pointed out that people across the State affected by rains and Cyclone Fengal had not received adequate compensation yet. The TVK has urged the Union government to release the funds sought by the State government, it added.

The Governor has assured us of considering our requests, the statement further said.

Vijay’s letter to T.N. women

This is Mr. Vijay’s first meeting with the Governor after his political debut, and it comes against the backdrop of the Anna University sexual assault case.

Earlier, in a letter to women in the State, he pointed out that everywhere in Tamil Nadu, including educational institutions, women were subjected to mass atrocities, disorderly conduct, and sexual crimes.

“As your brother, I am depressed and in inexplicable pain. Whom do we ask for our safety? It is a known fact that it is pointless to ask those who govern us. That is why I’m writing this letter,” he said.

Mr. Vijay said he would stand with the women no matter the situation and urged women students to focus on their education. He added that the TVK would create a safe Tamil Nadu. “We will make it possible together soon,” Mr. Vijay said.

Annamalai welcomes Vijay’s meeting with Guv

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai welcomed Vijay’s meeting with the Governor. “Today, we welcome the fact that the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Brother Mr. Vijay, also met and spoke to the Honorable Governor about the lack of security for women under the DMK regime,” he said.

“Condemning the DMK government for its continued attempts to divert attention from the case, I, as the brother of the victim student, request all parties to come forward. Our sister must get justice,” he added.
