Telangana ranks second in India for stolen mobile phone recoveries

Telangana has emerged as one of the leading States in India for recovering stolen and missing mobile phones, with a total of 70,058 devices traced and returned to their rightful owners through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The State now ranks second in the country for mobile recoveries, averaging 98.67 recoveries per day, said the DG of Telangana CID, Shikha Goel.

“The CEIR portal, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), is designed to combat mobile theft and counterfeit devices. Telangana’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is the nodal agency overseeing its implementation, ensuring that all 780 police stations in the State actively utilise the platform,” explained the officer.

Among the highest recoveries, the Hyderabad Commissionerate recorded 10,861 recovered devices, followed by the Cyberabad Commissionerate with 9,259 and the Rachakonda Commissionerate with 7,488. “This milestone was achieved through dedicated efforts by police personnel, who track and retrieve stolen devices using CEIR. Officers continuously monitor reports, contact individuals in possession of lost phones and return the recovered devices to their owners,” added the DG.

The Telangana Police, in collaboration with DoT, has also integrated the CEIR portal with the TG Police Citizen Portal, allowing citizens to report stolen phones online at www.tspolice.gov.in or directly via www.ceir.gov.in. The initiative has received positive feedback from citizens who have successfully retrieved their lost devices.
