Rain lashing Ramanathapuram on March 11, 2025

Many parts of Tamil Nadu received heavy rainfall on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) following an orange alert issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. Several parts of Chennai witnessed mild showers.
Till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Vedaranyam, Oothu in Tirunelveli district and Valinokam in Ramanathapuram district recorded 3 cm of rainfall each. Meanwhile, Ramanathapuram, Nalumukku, Kakkachi, Thangachimadam, Parangipettai, Cuddalore Collector Office, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, and Rameswaram recorded 2 cm each. Pamban, Thoothukudi Airport, Mandapam, Manjolai, Sirkali, Adiramapattinam, Thiruvarur, Kodiayakarai, Vedharanyam, Tuticorin, Thalaignayer and Thoothukudi railway station recorded 1 cm each.
Under the influence of a trough of low over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast extending up to 1.5 km above sea level, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts on Wednesday (March 12, 2025), according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai.
On Tuesday (March 11), many parts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry witnessed cloudy skies and it is likely to continue till Wednesday morning. Isolated heavy rain is expected over south Tamil Nadu and delta districts. Very heavy rain is also likely at isolated places over Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts during the same period.
Till Wednesday morning heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts and Karaikal area.
As far as Chennai City and surroundings is concerned, the sky will be partly cloudy and residents can expect light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning in some areas.
