The Telangana government appointed Special Officers to 128 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as the term of 129 municipal councils (120 municipalities and 9 corporations) came an end on Sunday (January 26). The term of Karimnagar Corporation’s council expires on January 28.
Though the terms of the councils of 130 ULBs are expiring, special officers were appointed to only 128 ULBs. This is because Naspur and Kothapally ULBs were merged with Mancherial and Karimnagar respectively. Elections to these ULBs were held in 2020.
The Special Officers will perform the functions of the municipal council until elected members come into office.
