Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Bonela Vijayachandra said on Monday that a new bridge on the Suvarnamukhi river would be ready within three months.

The government has given the top priority to the early construction of the bridge in view of the traffic jam in the key locations on the Visakhapatnam-Raipur highway, he said in a press release, adding that the progress of the work of the bridge was satisfactory.

The government has released adequate funds for the completion of the works on a war-footing, he said.

Blaming the YSRCP for the delay in the project, the MLA said, “The people’s representatives of the YSRCP used the bridge contract as an ATM instead of understanding the grievances on the continuous traffic jams on the old bridge constructed during the British regime.”

The NLA said that the progress of the project was being reviewed every week now.

“We have requested the Police Department to deploy personnel round the clock on both sides of the old bridge to ensure hassle-free movement of vehicles and prevent traffic jams,” he added.
