Screen Chhaava movie for all legislators in India, make it tax-free, demands Sena (UBT) MP

The recently released movie Chhaava, based on the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, should be screened for all the legislators across the country, Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded on Thursday. She also sought that the movie be declared β€œtax-free”.

β€œI have written to Ashwini Vaishnawji to urge the Chief Ministers of all the States that the movie based on the glorious life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj be made tax-free, as well as to organise special screening of the movie for the members of the legislative Assemblies and the Parliament,” she said. The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP also wrote two separate letters to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

β€œI am writing to request that special screenings of the recently released film Chhaava be organised for legislators across the country. The film depicts the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and serves as an important representation of Indian history and the Maratha Empire. As a Member of Parliament from Maharashtra, I take great pride in our past and strongly believe that this glorious portrayal of a historic leader should be witnessed by both our public representatives and Indians at large,” she stated in her letter to the Union Minister.

She said the screenings for the parliamentarians and the MLAs will help β€œhighlight this significant period of Indian history”.

In a similarly-worded letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, β€œMaking the film tax-free would make it more accessible to a wider audience, helping people connect with their historical and cultural roots. Given its significance, I also urge you to recommend that Chief Ministers of other States consider the same, as Chhaava represents not just Maharashtra’s history but a crucial chapter in India’s past.”

So far, prominent ruling political parties in Maharashtra have already organised special screenings of the movie Chhaava in the last few days.

The movie has already made a collection of β‚Ή200 crore at the box office within a week after opening. Recently, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that government will try to promote the film as history had done β€œinjustice to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj”.
