Minister for Local Self-Government M.B. Rajesh has said that his department will expedite the resettlement process for those affected by the Wayanad landslide, assuring that there is no need for concern.

Speaking after inaugurating a micro plan prepared by the District Kudumbashree Mission with the support of the district administration at Meppadi on Thursday (December 12), Mr. Rajesh said that the comprehensive plan, which addresses all the needs of those affected by the disaster was a crucial step toward their recovery.

“Efforts are being made across the State to help the survivors rebuild their lives. The Kudumbashree initiative has developed timely micro plans focusing on poverty alleviation through various employment projects for the resettlement,” the Minister said.

The survival programmes, which focused on six key areas would ensure effective resettlement at the grassroots level, he said. The integration of local institutions, Kudumbashree, public movements, and the government had been crucial in coordinating the micro plans, and their successful implementation would serve as a model for future initiatives, he added.

He also assured that the necessary procedures, including land acquisition, would be carried out to address any concerns.

The micro plan was developed based on a thorough assessment of each family’s current challenges and needs. It was meticulously coordinated to gain approval from local institutions and the district planning committee before implementation. The plan includes proposed solutions and interventions for the issues faced by survivors, along with associated costs and timelines.

The family-centred plan addresses various needs across six key areas— health, nutrition, education, livelihoods, skill development, and mental and social protection. The micro plans were created to comprehensively assess and provide solutions for the needs of 4,636 individuals from 1,084 families affected by the disaster. Tribal Minister O.R. Kelu presided over the function.
