A five-member Crime Branch (CB) squad under the Superintendent of Police K.K. Moideenkutty has initiated a preliminary investigation into the Christmas exam paper leak in which a Koduvally-based skill development training institute is suspected of having key involvement along with a few other similar entrepreneurs in the online training business.
The CB squad recorded the statements of a few senior Educational department officials and teachers based on the complaint filed by the Director General of Education to the State Police Chief. The suspects would be quizzed after recording the statements of all Educational department officials involved in the preparation, printing, and distribution of the question papers.
The CB sources said complaints related to similar incidents in the past in different parts of the State were also under examination. They said all suspected online training institutes mentioned by different complainants, including students’ organisation leaders and activists, would be contacted by the special squad for further verification.
Main complaint
“The main complaint is related to the leak of SSLC English and Plus One Mathematics question papers on YouTube. There are a lot of department-level procedures related to the question paper preparation and distribution. A First Information Report will be registered only after checking the version of all the stakeholders in the process and confirming the point of leak,” said a senior officer with the investigation team.
He also said the statements of the Deputy Director of Education (Kozhikode) and the District Education Officer (Thamarassery) who had major responsibilities in ensuring a transparent examination process were recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Koduvally police, who conducted a preliminary investigation into a complaint filed by the functionaries of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) against a Koduvally-based firm’s YouTube channel that allegedly carried obscene dialogues in educational contents created for the purpose of teaching students online, handed over the case to the Cyber Cell.
The AIYF functionaries, led by K.V. Rashid, had approached the Koduvally police on December 15 alleging that a number of social media pages opened for the promotion of the suspected institute were popularising unhealthy contents among minor students. They also submitted the details of such social media pages as evidence.
