A non-governmental organisation, the Federation of Farmers Associations in Telangana, moved the Telangana High Court by way of a PIL petition seeking a direction to secure the presence of the Leader of Opposition K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Assembly.
In the yet-to-be-heard PIL plea, the petitioner wanted the HC to direct the Assembly Speaker’s office and the Legislature Secretary to set the process in motion so that the LOP attended the Assembly to ‘raise the voice of people’. The petitioner, the NGO’s president D. Vijaypal Reddy, requested the HC to direct the LOP to attend the Assembly or relinquish his post.
The petitioner stated that if the LOP had any personal difficulties in attending the Assembly, the HC can direct the BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao to replace the LOP with another person. The legislative administration is not a private affair of the LOP and the BRS working president, the petitioner stated. The petitioner requested the HC to propose a legal solution, by invoking its extra judicial powers, to ensure the democracy system involving the LOP performed properly. He also wanted the HC to re-draw the framework of the LOP in the larger interest of the public.
