The Motor Vehicles department (MVD) has stepped up inspections in coordination with the police as part of efforts to improve road safety in Ernakulam.
Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer T.M. Jerson said that the focus would be on ensuring the proper functioning of speed governors and GPS in vehicles where they were mandatory. Action would also be taken against vehicles with unauthorised lights, high-decibel speakers, air horns, high-beam headlights, and those that are overloaded.
“Such vehicles will be allowed to operate only after the unauthorised fittings are removed. Steps will also be taken to cancel the fitness certificates of such erring vehicles, if necessary. The combined inspections by the MVD and the police will continue until January 15. Riding triple on two-wheelers and performing bike stunts will result in licence cancellation,” he added.
