The Palode police on Saturday took a youth into custody in connection with the alleged suicide of his wife under mysterious circumstances a day ago.
Abhijith of Elavattom in Palode, was detained for alleged involvement in his wife Induja’s death. She was found hanging in their bedroom on Friday.
The inquest also revealed bruises on Induja’s body, indicating the possibility of physical abuse.
The couple had married four months ago, despite Abhijith’s family’s opposition towards the matrimonial alliance. Induja, who used to work in a private laboratory, hailed from a tribal colony in Idinjar, Peringamala.
Accusing Abhijith’s family of subjecting her to torture, Induja’s family claimed to have noticed bruises on her face when she visited them two weeks ago. They also alleged that she faced immense mental harassment, and that she was barred from visiting them.
Her father Sasidharan Kani demanded that both Abhijith and his mother be charged for murder.
