TDP national general secretary and IT Minister N. Lokesh said on Saturday that leaders should either go to the next level after serving two terms in their positions or take a break to let freshers come in from time to time so that the party continues to thrive.

After holding his current post for the fourth term, Mr. Lokesh said he was prepared to make way for others. He stressed the need for such reforms in the party, saying that constant change was essential, and young people should enter politics, and insisted that only those who worked sincerely for the party should be promoted.

Speaking at the formation day celebrations of the TDP at its central office, Mr. Lokesh said it was a habit for the party to create and break records in politics, and that its founder N.T. Rama Rao demonstrated how it could win the hearts of the masses.

The TDP weathered many a storm in its 43-year journey and it was not yet worn out as it had good leadership, and its huge number of workers never ditched the party during difficult times.

Mr. Lokesh asserted that the TDP had many opportunities to call the shots in national politics, but the State’s interests were of paramount importance for it. Accordingly, the TDP was focused on development of the States and the well-being of its people, Mr. Lokesh observed.

Further, Mr. Lokesh said the TDP’s goal was poverty-free society. For achieving it, the party implemented several schemes over the years, and ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ and ‘Annadata Sukhibhava’would be implemented from May.

Membership

Mr. Lokesh said garnering a membership of one crore-plus was a great achievement for the party and it would not be possible without the efforts of the cadres. The new membership registered in A.P. and Telangana together stood at 1,02,35,857 in just 83 days, he stated, adding that the party spent about ₹140 crore on the welfare of its workers.
