The stalled construction of the Thuruthimukku Bridge, linking Kannur district and Kozhikode across the Mayyazhi River, is set to resume after receiving financial approval from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
The ₹17.95-crore project, delayed since its initiation in 2019 due to setbacks like contractor withdrawal and land acquisition issues, has gained new momentum.
After Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative society Limited withdrew from the contract due to delays in land acquisition, tenders for three plots were floated. However, the KIIFB expert committee recommended a review of the contract as the amount was 27% higher.
KIIFB has granted financial approval following the intervention of K.P. Mohanan, MLA, while the Kerala Road Fund Board has already given technical approval.
The revised plan includes a 204-metre span bow-string arch bridge with approach roads of 175 metres on the Kedani side and 60 metres on the Edacheri side. The project aims to improve connectivity.
