The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) cracked the whip on factionalism in the party in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala by expelling mutinous leader Madhu Mullassery from its primary membership hours before he was set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Mr. Mullassery recently raised the flag of rebellion during the CPI(M)’s area committee conference at Mangalapuram.

He publicly attacked the district leadership, singling out CPI(M) district secretary V. Joy for criticism seemingly bordering on personal.

Mr. Joy told newspersons that Mr. Mullassery had gone against the party conference’s decision to replace him as area secretary. He said Mr. Mullassery faced accusations of corruption and other personal misconduct. Mr. Joy said he would sue Mr. Mullassery for libel.

Meanwhile, BJP workers, led by the party’s district president V.V. Rajesh, visited Mr. Mullassery at his residence. Mr. Rajesh said BJP State president K. Surendran would soon welcome Mr. Mullassery into the party fold at a reception at the organisation’s State headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
