Katra attack: NIA files chargesheet against accused for ‘sheltering attackers’

The NIA said the attack was aimed at ‘unleashing terror among general public and those visiting Jammu and Kashmir for pilgrimage’

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday (December 14, 2024) filed chargesheet against an accused in the Katra attack, which left eight pilgrims dead on June 9 this year.

An NIA spokesperson said, the accused, Hakam Khan alias Hakim Din, was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and UA(P) Act.

“The accused confessed to being part of the conspiracy behind the attack, which was executed by three terrorists with his active logistic support. Besides providing them food and stay arrangements, he had helped the terrorists in identifying the attack spot,” the NIA said.

On June 9 2024, unknown terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on a bus carrying pilgrims at Kanda near Jhandi Morh, leaving eight pilgrims, including the bus driver, dead and 41 injured. “The firing had caused the bus driver to lose control after he was hit on the head with a bullet. The bus then rolled into a deep gorge, leading to the tragic deaths and injuries,” the NIA said.

The NIA said the attack was aimed at “unleashing terror among general public and those visiting Jammu and Kashmir for pilgrimage”.
