Revenue Inspectors (RIs) and Village Accountants (VAs), who are the main field staff of the Revenue Department, are set to go hi-tech as the government is in the process of providing laptops to them.
Announcing this at a press conference in Bengaluru on Monday, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said about 6,000 laptops would be given to them within March. All RIs and VAs will get laptops within the year-end, he noted.
The RIs and VAs would be linked to the e-office system once they get laptops so that they can access online documentation and work. This would prevent them from unnecessarily coming to office, cutting short their field trips just to get documents. This would help them spend more time on field work, he explained.
Mr. Byre Gowda announced that an incentive of ₹4.5 crore would be given to VAs and gram sevaks who played a crucial role in Aadhaar seeding of 2.12 crore RTCs. About 8,000 staff would be eligible for this incentive which would be proportional to the number of cases handled by them, he said.
He said the incentive was being given to encourage them and also compensate for the expenses they incurred in terms of travel and mobile currency charges, while handling Aadhaar seeding with RTCs.
