The dictionaries focus on complex words, grammar and pronunciation to enable students to learn, construct sentences and read effectively in both Kannada and English.

Inspired by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka government’s Department of School Education and the Samagra Shiksha wing have developed a Kannada-English bilingual dictionary to enhance language proficiency among schoolchildren in that State.
The dictionary was launched on Wednesday (December 25) at the conference hall of the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) in Bengaluru.
Andhra Pradesh Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao joined the function virtually from his office in Vijayawada.
The Karnataka wing of Samagra Shiksha has designed two separate sets of dictionaries for students of Classes 1-5 and for Classes 6-8, focusing on complex words, grammar and pronunciation, to enable students to learn, construct sentences and read effectively in both Kannada and English.
DSERT director Gopalakrishna said a delegation from Karnataka had visited schools in Andhra Pradesh to study their bilingual textbooks and dictionaries. Inspired by A.P.’s model, Karnataka also printed a bilingual dictionary on similar lines.
He said over 50 subject experts and teachers, with technical support provided by Save the Children organisation, contributed to developing the dictionaries.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao shared the thought that went into the publishing of bilingual textbooks and dictionaries in Andhra Pradesh. He said A.P. was focused on foundational learning programmes, STEM-based education and learning improvement strategies.
Representatives of DSERT, Radha and Vijayamma, director of Save the Children Avinash Singh and education advisor for south India Malladi Srinagesh and others were present.
