As part of enhancing the safety measures, a high-mast light and CCTV cameras will be installed at the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand in Alappuzha, District Collector Alex Varghese has said.
The Alappuzha municipality would install the high-mast light within two weeks and it would help curb anti-social activities centred on the bus stand. The decision to install the light was taken following a joint inspection conducted earlier by Mr. Varghese, District Police Chief M.P. Mohana Chandran and Alappuzha municipal chairperson K.K. Jayamma, which revealed inadequate lighting in several areas of the KSRTC bus stand.
In addition to the high-mast light, CCTV cameras will be installed in and around the bus stand for monitoring. The cameras will be sponsored by Care for Alappuzha, says an official.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Alappuzha town in connection with the New Year celebrations. Stringent measures have been put in place to curb anti-social activities and ensure the safety of visitors. More than 200 police personnel have been deployed across the town, the District Collector said.
