Gemini Edible & Fats India Limited, a Hyderabad-based manufacturer and supplier of cooking oils, in association with Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Dhruvansh NGO took up the initiative to restore Kotha Cheruvu in Kokapet on Sunday.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the company has contributed ₹1.2 crore to develop natural resources for the benefit of the neighbouring communities.

According to its officials, the lake suffered from rapid urbanisation and pollution and its water quality deteriorated due to sewage inflow and the growth of aquatic weeds. The restoration project focuses on cleaning the lake, improving water quality and preserving local biodiversity using sustainable and cost-effective technology while creating awareness in the community.

HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner Sreevatsa Kota, Narsingi Municipality chairperson Mailaram Nagapurna, Telangana Social Impact Group director Archana Suresh, along with the company’s vice president Akshay Chowdhry and director G. Prathap, Madhulika Choudhary of Dhruvansh NGO, and officials were present in the inaugural event.

Mr. Akshay Chowdhry stated: “Through the adoption of Kotha Cheruvu, we are taking meaningful steps toward restoring a vital waterbody for the community. We are happy to associate with the initiative of the State government to restore and rejuvenate vital resources like the lake for future generations and encourage sustainable growth of the State. We are proud to support such initiatives that not only preserve nature but also improve the quality of life for the people in this region.”
