T. Ramasami, former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), has underscored the significance of innovative research in driving technological progress and urged the scientific community to focus on demand-driven science in emerging research landscapes.
Dr. Ramasami, a Padma Bhushan awardee and former Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), was addressing the 13th foundation day of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) at the CSIR – National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST).
He urged research institutions to engage in deeper collaboration with industries. Dr. Ramasami also encouraged young researchers to think beyond conventional academic pursuits and focus on solving real-world challenges through scientific advancements.
NIIST director C. Anandharamakrishnan, who presided, recalled the significant role played by AcSIR in shaping the future of scientific inquiry and fostering a culture of interdisciplinary research. The foundation day celebrations also included a series of events and competitions.
