Fight over excess use of mobile phone results in death of minor girl, her brother in Pudukottai district

A 16-year-old girlΒ reportedly ended her life following a quarrel with her 18-year-old elder brother who died while trying to rescue her. The incident was reported at Keelamedu village in the district on Monday night.

The girl β€” a Class XI student of a government school at Mandaiyur β€” is said to have been spending much time on the mobile phone. Her elder brother C. Manikandan, who worked as an electrician, is said to have questioned his sister over this leading to a quarrel between them in their house at Keelamedu.

Manikandan reportedly snatched the phone from his sister. The girl apparently, in a fit of rage, left her house and reportedly ended her life. Her brother, who tried to rescue her, died in the process. The two bodies were sent for autopsy to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi where it was conducted. The Mandaiyur police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS
