Minister of Information, Public Relations, and Housing Kolusu Parthasarathy ridiculed former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s statements, accusing him of speaking about Sankranti without understanding its significance. Mr. Jagan should recognise that Sankranti is the festival of farmers, the Minister emphasised.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Mr. Parthasarathy said that farmers in villages are joyfully celebrating Sankranti after the NDA government came to power, which the YSRCP leaders were unable to digest. “It is absurd that the YSRCP says Sankranti belongs only to the ruling coalition. Such statements reflect the YSRCP’s frustration,” Mr. Parthasarathy said.
“Many are leaving the YSRCP due to dissatisfaction with Mr. Jagan’s leadership. An amount of ₹6,569 crore has been deposited into the accounts of 4,56,873 farmers in exchange for 28,83,238 metric tonnes of grain procured from them. Unlike the YSRCP government, which delayed payments by 2-3 months, the coalition government is depositing the money within hours, much to the farmers’ joy as they celebrate Sankranti,” Mr. Parthasarathy said.
The Minister highlighted that under the NTR Bharosa scheme, pensions have been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 per month, benefiting over 63 lakh people. Additionally, through the Deepam scheme, 82,97,371 people received gas cylinders with a subsidy of ₹639 crore, he said.
