PMK president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on Saturday congratulated Jayashree Vencatesan, co-founder, Care Earth Trust, for being awarded the Ramsar award for ‘Wetland Wise Use’, for fighting to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s water bodies and wetlands.
In a statement, Dr. Anbumani said that Jayashree Vencatesan underlined the importance of Pallikaranai marshlands when it was considered ‘waste land’ and was being destroyed.
“Pasumai Thayagam and Jayashree Vencatesan have a relationship for more than 25 years. She participated in the cycle rally that I had organised to safeguard Pallikaranai marshland in 2003. Pasumai Thayagam president Sowmiya Anbumani released Care Earth Trust’s book, ‘Claimate Change and Water Risk – a strategy and Action Plan’,” he said.
Dr. Anbumani said that Ms. Jayashree, who has been fighting to save wetlands, deserves the Ramsar award.
