Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Monday set a deadline of six months for sub-divisional Assistant Commissioners to dispose of cases that have been pending for long.
Mr. Byre Gowda, who reviewed the progress of cases with ACs through videoconferencing, warned of action against those failing to stick to the deadline. Pointing out that the law clearly states that ACs cannot keep the cases in their courts beyond six months, the Minister said there were nearly 60,000 such long pending cases before their courts when the Congress formed its government in 2023. Following this, the government had intended to ensure that such cases were disposed of within a year to prevent people from running from pillar to post.
But though one-and-a-half years had passed since the formation of the government, only 55% of pending cases had been disposed, he said. He asked regular ACs to dispose of a minimum of 200 to 250 cases a month and special ACs to dispose 70 to 100 cases a month.
