Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (February 21, 2025) announced a solatium of βΉ3 lakh each to the families of three college students who were killed in an accident in Kerala on Wednesday (February 19, 2025).
The three students, from a private college in Agatheeswaram, Kanniyakumari district, were on an excursion to Kerala. They died after the bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Munnar. A team of 39 students and three staff members from the college were on the bus when the accident ocurred.
While R. Athika, 20, from Thingal Nagar in Kalkulam taluk, and R. Venika, 20, from Anjugramam in Agatheeswaram taluk, died on the spot, S. Sudhan Nithyanandan, 20, from Tiruvaranganeri in Nanguneri taluk, died after failing to respond to treatment in a hospital. Another student, Kevin Suresh, was undergoing treatment in Madurai Government Medical College and Hospital.
In a statement, Mr. Stalin said he had instructed officials to ensure the best treatment to the student admitted to the hospital. He also announced a financial assistance of βΉ1 lakh to the injured student from the Chief Ministerβs Public Relief Fund.
