BJP appoints 70 district chiefs in Uttar Pradesh; OBCs, Brahmins dominate

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in a major organizational reshuffling in Uttar Pradesh, announced 70 district party presidents.

Aiming a caste balance among the new district president who are likely to lead the party going into 2027 assembly polls, the BJP focused on Brahmins and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as 44 out of 70 (60%) hail from these caste segments. While 25 OBCs have been made president in districts, 19 Brahmins have been included.

The BJP has divided the State into 98 organizational districts, with 28 district presidents still to be declared.

In the list declared on late Sunday, five district presidents are women while 26 heads are reelected.

Out of 25 district presidents hailing from the OBC social groups, five are from Kurmi community, two from Lodhs community, two from Maurya community, while one each from Yadav, Kushwaha, Rajbhar, Pal, Saini, Kashyap and Vaishya communities. Kurmis, are numerically significant community among OBCs constituting roughly four per cent of State population. Similarly, Brahmins are also considered significant in the State’s political and social calculus.

Brahmin leaders have been appointed as district presidents in key areas of Mathura, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Kasganj, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bareilly, Balrampur, Amethi among others.

In Mathura, Nirbhay Pandey is declared as BJP chief, while in Bahraich, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur and Kasganj, Brajesh Pandey, Sushil Tripathi, Janarandan Tiwari and Neeraj Sharma are made district presidents, respectively.

Six district presidents are from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category among them three are from Pasi community.

In Varanasi Maha Nagar, Pradeep Agrahari is made the president, while in Amethi, Sudhanshu Shukla is declared the new district chief of the ruling party. In Rae Bareli, Buddhi Lal Pasi, a SC is made the district chief, while in Lucknow Maha Nagar, Anand Dwivedi is declared the BJP president.

“The remaining district presidents will be announced soon,” said Mahendra Nath Pandey, State election in charge, BJP.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other top state leaders congratulated the newly appointed leaders expressing belief that they will strengthen the campaign for security and good governance in U.P.

“Hearty congratulations to all the newly appointed district and metropolitan presidents of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh. I have full faith that all of you will strengthen the organization further by following the policies and principles of the BJP and will contribute in taking forward the campaign of Hon’ble Prime Minister for security and good governance in Uttar Pradesh. Best wishes to everyone for a bright tenure,” said Mr. Adityanath.

With these appointment at local level, the appointment of new state BJP chief will also be made soon, keeping in view the upcoming Panchayat polls, which is scheduled later this year.
