Activist murder case: Thirumayam Inspector placed under suspension


Days after the murder of activist Jagaber Ali in Pudukottai district, Inspector of Thirumayam police station was placed under suspension on Sunday. Ali, 58, had been mowed down by a lorry along the Vengalur to K. Pallivasal Road in Thirumayam police station.

An order placing Inspector Gunasekaran of Thirumayam station under suspension was issued by Deputy Inspector-General of Police of Tiruchi Range V. Varun Kumar, said police sources. The sources said the action against the Inspector was taken apparently for showing slackness. 

Four persons, including a quarry owner, have been arrested by the Thirumayam police in connection with the murder case. Another accused Ramaiah, a co-owner of the same quarry at Thulaiyanur village, was was reported to be absconding, surrendered at the Namanasamudram police station in the district recently.

Jagaber Ali had repeatedly petitioned authorities concerned regarding illegal stone quarrying in Thirumayam area. His murder case was transferred from the Pudukottai district police to the Crime Branch CID.

Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman met Jagaber Ali’s wife Mariyam at Vengalur in the district on Sunday.
