The Andhra Pradesh government on December 21, Saturday, dropped all disciplinary proceedings against retired IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao with regard to the charges of corruption levelled against him during the YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) tenure.

The disciplinary proceedings were dropped on the ground that further inquiry into the allegations levelled on a Member of Service who attained superannuation would not yield any positive result in the already conducted proceedings, and the probability of unearthing any further evidence stood closed.

A G.O. issued by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad said that the inquiry held earlier established that no financial loss was caused to the Government of Andhra Pradesh as the funds involved in the transaction were returned to the State Trading Corporation of India Limited and the tender process in question was cancelled on December 24, 2018.

No material benefit was found to have accrued either to Mr. Venkateswara Rao or his son as a result of the alleged violations. Despite the submission of the inquiry report, deliberations on the nature and quantum of penalties (proposed to be imposed on him) remained unresolved.
