Tiruchi Rural police patrol teams get body cameras

As many as 57 body cameras have been provided to police patrol teams in Tiruchi Rural limits to use the gadgets for recording the proceedings while conducting vehicle checks and other operations to bring in greater transparency and accountability in their work.

The cameras were handed over to 44 two-wheeler patrol teams, 11 highway patrol teams and the Kollidam and Tiruverumbur patrol vehicles. Superintendent of Police S. Selvanagarathinam handed over the cameras to the police personnel here on Saturday.

He said the initiative would bring more transparency to the conversations between the public and police personnel. The police personnel were instructed to check if the camera is charged before proceeding to work, switch on the body cameras to record interactions and save the data to the computer at the respective police station on a daily basis. He instructed the police personnel to be polite and dignified in their interactions with the public.

With the use of these body cameras, the location of the patrol vehicles can be tracked from the police control room, and the nearest patrol teams can be sent to the location of the incident.
