Stone-pelting during religious procession in J.J. Nagar; case registered

Tension prevailed in parts of J.J. Nagar on Sunday night after a stone-pelting incident allegedly took place during a religious procession near V.S. Garden in the J.J. Nagar police station limits.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when devotees were pulling the deity’s chariot as part of a procession that began from the Om Shakti temple.

The devotees alleged that stones were thrown at the procession from nearby areas, resulting in injuries to a minor girl.

The child reportedly sustained a head injury and was shifted for medical attention. The devotees alleged that unidentified miscreants pelted stones under the cover of darkness.

Following the incident, Om Shakti mala dharis staged a protest in front of the J.J. Nagar police station demanding immediate action against the miscreants.

The protesters insisted that they would disperse only after an FIR was registered.

The police said that an FIR has been registered based on the complaint lodged by the devotees and that an investigation is under way.

Additional police forces were deployed at the incident spot and near the police station, and security was tightened to prevent any escalation.

West Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Yateesh N. visited the police station and reviewed the situation. The police said they were examining CCTV footage.

Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain peace and assured strict action against those who were behind the incident.
