The South African cricket team, led by Temba Bavuma, arrived in Lahore, Pakistan on Friday for an upcoming ODI tri-series involving New Zealand and Pakistan. The team’s white-ball coach Rob Walter has named a 12-man squad for the opening match, featuring Gerald Coetzee who has returned from injury, along with six uncapped players.
Pakistan Cricket announced the arrival through their social media platform X, stating: “Temba Bavuma-led South Africa team arrives in Lahore for the ODI tri-series.”

The squad for the first match includes several new faces with Meeka-eel Prince, Gideon Peters, Eathan Bosch, and Mihali Mpongwana yet to make their international debuts. Matthew Breetzke, who has played Tests and T20Is, and Senuran Muthusamy, with four Test appearances, complete the newcomers’ list.
Gerald Coetzee’s return marks his first appearance since his last match against Sri Lanka in a Test series on November 27, 2024.
The squad composition will undergo changes after the ongoing SA20 league concludes in South Africa, with experienced players like Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen becoming available from the second game onwards.
The tri-series schedule begins with New Zealand facing Pakistan at the Gadaffi Stadium on February 8, followed by New Zealand versus South Africa on February 10 in a day match.
The tournament then shifts to Karachi, where Pakistan will face South Africa in a day/night match on February 12. The final is scheduled for February 14 at the same venue.
This tri-series serves as a preparatory event before the ICC Champions Trophy, which begins February 19.
