The Indian men’s team made it three wins in a row in the inaugural edition of the Kho Kho World Cup. At the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday, the men in sky blue got the better of Peru 70-38 in a Group-A match to seal their passage into the knockouts.
For the second straight game, meanwhile, the Indian women’s team hit the 100-point tally. After thumping South Korea 175-18 in its opening Group A fixture on Tuesday, the host produced another commanding performance versus Iran as a 100-16 win secured its quarter-final berth. While Iran won the toss and chose to defend, it took just 33 seconds for India to eliminate the first batch of three players. It set the tone for a one-sided contest that delighted the partisan crowd.
“We are setting ourselves to go all the way. We will face sterner tests. So, we are being smart in the way we use our players to avoid injuries,” India women’s team coach Sumit Bhatia said.
