DTS Racing’s Liron Jaden Samuels (37pts) deservedly walked away with the overall title in the JK Tyre Novice Cup, part of the 27th JK Tyre – FMSCI National Racing Championship, at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Saturday.
It was a tight battle between Liron and Aditya Patnaik from Momentum Motorsports. Both secured a double win each. The latter went on to make it a rare treble, winning the fourth and the fifth race in a commanding manner.
But his joy was short-lived as he was imposed a 10-second penalty for the jump start in the fourth race. It pushed him down to fourth place. Liron, having finished second in the race, was elevated to the top and, with it, boosted his points tally.
“I really wanted this title and did everything possible to get right up there. Also, I had a bit of luck on my side because anything can happen in racing. Everything has to go your way, and it did for me this time around,” said Liron, the 16-year-old.
Momentum Motorsports, however, was happy to take home the team championship with 63 points to its kitty. DTS Racing (61pts) had to rest content for the second spot.
