Delhi Capitals’ all-round performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Dr YSR ACA VDCA Stadium enthralled Vizagites on Sunday. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc dismantled SRH’s batting lineup with a brilliant five-wicket haul, while DC’s vice-captain Faf du Plessis played a fearless knock in the powerplay, scoring a half-century and nearly taking the game away from SRH.

SRH, known for their power-hitting prowess, had a disappointing outing as some of their most anticipated players—Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma—failed to make an impact with the bat. There was a loud cheer when local boy Nitish Kumar Reddy walked in to bat. However, he too failed to perform in his first match on his home ground. SRH’s new recruit, Aniket Verma, provided some much-needed runs with a brilliant batting display, scoring 74 off just 41 balls.
Packed Stadium
Being a weekend and with high expectations for a high-scoring match, the stadium was packed. There were equal numbers of supporters for both DC and SRH.

“Yes, we were slightly disappointed with SRH’s batting. While we may not have expected 300, we were hoping for a first-innings score of around 250, given SRH’s brilliant batting lineup. However, I was so happy to see Mitchell Starc picking up a fifer,” said a young V. Navadheer.
During DC’s batting, it was a masterclass in stroke play. The crowd went berserk during the partnership between Faf du Plessis and Jack Fraser, which involved lot of boundaries. Champions Trophy winner KL Rahul received a grand reception from the local fans, adding to the electrifying atmosphere at the stadium.
“Though he played a short innings, Rahul’s boundaries made an impact in the game, helping to finish it early. We now have a better understanding of how Rahul will play this season at No. 4 for DC,” said an excited Santosh Kumar, a fan of KL Rahul, showing his DC jersey with Rahul’s name on it.
Super Six
Cricket lovers from the region were in for a surprise when the announcement of the ‘Super Six Challenge’ came after the game. Fans were thrilled as the power hitters took to the field, hitting massive sixes. Aniket Verma once again flexed his muscles with a 92-metre six, while SRH’s batter Abhinav Manohar smashed a 93-metre six. The crowd went wild as fans rushed to catch the balls that flew into the stands during the competition.
Hundreds of police personnel were deployed across the city to monitor traffic amid VVIP movement. ICC Chairman Jay Shah, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and others were received by Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) president Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), along with ACA Secretary S. Satish Babu and others.
