Except Secunderabad division, the rest of the five divisions are showing punctuality of trains to be more than 80%. In fact, four of the divisions — Hyderabad, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded — have been maintaining more than 90% punctuality while Vijayawada is a wee bit behind at 89.5%.
About 32 divisions across the country have been showing more than 90% punctuality while 17 divisions are showing more than 80%, according to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday.
He had presented these details in the Parliament where it was disclosed that Bhavanagar in Western Railway and Madurai in Southern Railway have had punctuality of trains of 99.6% and 99.2% respectively. Other divisions showing punctuality of trains with 95% or more are Ahmedabad 95.1%, Guntur & Kota 95.7%, Palghat 95.9%, Jodhpur 96.1%, Ajmer 97.1%, Rajkot 97.7%, Sealdah 98%, Bikaner 98.1% and Ratlam 98.1%.
The Minister also disclosed that a new train from Jammu to Srinagar will be approved following the inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) and once the recommendations made are implemented. It was pointed out that two iconic bridges — Anji and Chenab — considered to be engineering feats, have been built braving the arduous weather and hostile conditions for establishing the train link.
The number of general coaches is being increased to 2.5 times that of AC coaches with 17,000 such coaches under manufacturing schedule, he added.
