The roof of a building at Government Upper Primary school, Karthikappally in Alappuzha, partially collapsed on Sunday (July 20, 2025) morning. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The incident occurred amid heavy rain and winds. According to school authorities, no classes were conducted in the building. However, parents and local residents said that classes were indeed being held there.
It is not immediately known whether the collapsed building had a valid fitness certificate.
The collapsed building is more than 100 years old. A new building for the school is currently under construction. The incident occurred just a few days after a 13-year-old student was electrocuted at a school at Thevalakkara in Kollam.
The collapse has sparked protests in front of the school.
