The Rajarajan Mani Mandapam, a structure built in honour of Chola King Rajaraja Chola, was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education Govi Chezhiaan after an extensive facelift in Thanjavur on Wednesday.
The renovation of the memorial and adjoining museum on the premises, originally built in 1995, was carried out by the Public Works Department at a cost of ₹3.66 crore.
According to an official release, Thanjavur District Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam, Mayor S. Ramanathan and Deputy Mayor Anjugam Bhoopathy were present.
The renovation and maintenance project had been announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on November 2, 2022. In addition to the general maintenance of the old building, the upgraded facility now includes shops, public toilets, children’s park, walking trails, and parking area.
