Heavy rain disrupted proceedings on the third day of the National inter-state athletics championships at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.
No athlete was able to make the cut for next month’s World championships for the third successive day.
Haryana’s Ravina broke the meet record in women’s 20km race walk with a time of 1:35:13.49 seconds, erasing the previous mark set by Bhawna Jat (1:37:03.00) in Bhubaneswar in 2023.
Tejas Shirse, the season’s best runner in men’s 110m hurdles, expectedly clinched the gold (13.60s).
He tripped on the first hurdle but didn’t make any mistake thereafter to emerge a comfortable winner, pushing R. Manav and Muhammed Lazan to the second and third positions respectively.
However, it was a far cry from Tejas’ personal best (13.41s, current National record) and the World’s qualification mark (13.27s).
“Even if I had run like 13.5s, I would have perhaps qualified through World ranking points. I’m just unlucky, I guess. I can’t blame the conditions as it was the same for everyone,” he said.
The Tamil Nadu women’s 4x100m quartet consisting of R. Pavithra, Abinaya Rajarajan, M. Angel Silvia and S. Dhanalakshmi set a new meet record of 44.73s bettering the mark set by the State team (45.40s) last year in Panchkula.
Odisha’s men’s 4x100m relay team comprising Sarun Payasingh, Lalu Prasad Bhoi, Animesh Kujur and Amiya Mallick also set a new meet record.
U. Karthik of Kerala won the men’s triple jump gold, defeating favourites Abdulla Aboobacker (second, 16.37m) and Praveen Chithravel (third, 16.35m) for a season’s best of 16.44m.
