Railway stations with better amenities and enhanced aesthetics inaugurated at Srirangam, Mannargudi

The revamped Srirangam and Mannargudi railway stations, which have been equipped with a host of facilities, were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Bikaner in Rajasthan on Thursday.  The two stations have been given a complete makeover under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

Functions were organised at the two railway stations falling under the limits of the Tiruchi Railway Division with railway officials, people’s representatives, and general public taking part.  The two stations have been provided with improved amenities, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced aesthetics with the aim of offering passengers a comfortable and pleasant experience.

Located on the busy Tiruchi-Villupuram chord line, the new-look Srirangam Railway Station, which caters to 1,900 passengers daily, has been revamped at a cost of ₹6.77 crore. It now has a new facade with porches for arrival and departure areas, renovated concourse, covered parking lot, air-conditioned waiting halls, refurbished VIP lounge and retiring rooms, enhanced passenger information system, digital trilingual LED name boards and coach indication boards besides renovated booking counters.

‘Besides these, the station’s approach road and the subway have been upgraded and improvements made to the floor on Platform No. 1 with more seats and water cubicles provided. CCTV surveillance has been installed. The station now has ramps and barrier-free parking and water cubicles for the benefit of people with disabilities.

Tiruchi Divisional Railway Manager M.S. Anbalagan, MP Durai Vaiko, Collector M. Pradeep Kumar, and Srirangam MLA Palaniyandi were present. A commemorative plaque was unveiled by the dignitaries at the station.

At Mannargudi

The Mannargudi Railway Station has been revamped at a cost of ₹4.69 crore. The key improvements made include new facade, improved road access, parking bays, and pedestrian walkways, provision of CCTV surveillance, barrier-free amenities for persons with disabilities, drinking water points, and energy efficient lighting system.

Thanjavur MP S. Murasoli, Mannargudi municipal chairman Mannai T. Chozharajan and senior railway officials were present. A commemorative plaque was unveiled on the occasion by the dignitaries at the station, a release from the Tiruchi Railway Division said.
